Snow 2020

It's no surprise.  It's winter. A common frustration is disabled parking spaces filled with snow.   What can one person do?Point this barrier out to the manager.  Those parking spaces make it possible for customers to get into their building.  Urge them to get it cleared right away.  People with disabilities spend money - if they can get into the building.When customers see this barrier, you can bet they will go somewhere else.  They won't return until the snow is gone if they ever return.  It is federal law that the disabled spaces be usable.  They aren't if they are full of snow.Does the manager have a contract for snow plowing?  Suggest they put a penalty into the contract.  The penalty will be a charge to the plowing service for every day the disabled parking is blocked.You don't have democracy when any people are excluded. ...

I Called the Police – but WAIT, There is More

UPDATE:  Nothing is simple.  Try to wrap your head around this.  It's OK to park a front end loader on the yellow symbol painted on the ground.  That yellow symbol is not the official blue and white metal sign.There is no blue and white sign posted anywhere.  Therefore the space is not really a handicapped parking space.  The yellow symbol does not make it a handicapped space.  And it gets better.The restaurant is required by law to have 1 handicapped parking space for every 25 ordinary ones.  If they do not have any handicapped spaces, so what.  No one enforces that law.In the end, that restaurant and every other business can get around the ADA by not putting up the blue and white metal signs.   Is this wrong?  Yes.   This shows why we need to put pressure on lawmakers to fix this.Sign up for our newsletter on what advocates and allies can do.Does anyone believe that a front...

Best Disabled Parking Sign

Kwik Trip gas stations/convenience stores in Wisconsin post this sign.  This is the best I ever saw.How many times do you see a delivery van blocking the disabled parking slots?  A truck will even block two.  "Will only be a minute . . .  no one is using this spot anyway."  Common courtesy is park somewhere else.  The law says park somewhere else.White sign says: "Delivery vehicles unloading in front of accessible spaces are in violation"No driver will miss this sign!  ...
